A new Statistics Canada survey has found that seven in ten racialized Canadians contributed volunteer hours in 2023, with those born in Canada showing particularly strong engagement at 79 percent. The study, which marks the first comprehensive examination of volunteering patterns among racialized populations, reveals that these volunteers collectively donated 936 million hours annually, averaging 145 hours per person. While community contribution remains the primary motivation across all groups, racialized volunteers more frequently cite networking and professional development as driving factors. Time constraints emerged as the most significant barrier, affecting racialized Canadians disproportionately compared to their non-racialized counterparts.
