Canada introduced new legislation and funding to combat antisemitism

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced new measures to combat rising antisemitism and protect Jewish communities across Canada. Jewish Canadians recently faced a severe surge in religion-motivated hate crimes. In response, the Federal Government introduced Bill C-9, also known as the Combatting Hate Act. This new law creates strict criminal offences for intimidation at schools, places of worship, and community centres. Furthermore, the government committed an additional seventy-five million dollars to the Canada Community Security Program. This funding will provide vital security infrastructure, safety training, and personnel for at-risk institutions. A new Ministerial Advisory Council will also help guide future anti-racism initiatives.
