A new study by the Institute for Canadian Citizenship reveals that many skilled immigrants cannot find work in their fields. The report notes that about 640,000 immigrants are currently overqualified for their job positions. During an Ottawa press conference, Chief Executive Officer Daniel Bernhard criticized Canada for creating major barriers to credential recognition. He explained that the country successfully attracts top global talent but fails to utilize their skills. Bernhard emphasized that proper credential recognition could immediately add 27,000 nurses and 16,000 doctors to the workforce. This shift would directly address severe domestic healthcare labour shortages without increasing overall immigration numbers.
