Canada introduces an electronic travel authorization requirement for maritime travellers from Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon

The federal government announced new screening rules for maritime travel from Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. Most visa-exempt foreign nationals arriving in Canada by boat must now obtain an electronic travel authorization. This rule applies to travellers using ferries, private boats, and commercial vessels. Officials created the requirement after discovering that some individuals used the sea route to bypass border screening. The rule excludes French citizens residing in the collectivity, cruise ship passengers, and United States nationals. Immigration Minister Lena Diab stated that the measure strengthens border security while protecting the local economy.
