Minister Tanya Fir announced Alberta's declaration of 2026 as the Year of the Francophonie, recognizing the deep-rooted contributions of French-speaking communities across the province. French, one of Canada's official languages, has shaped Alberta for generations through cultural, educational, and economic impact. The declaration coincides with the 100th anniversary of the Association canadienne-française de l'Alberta (ACFA), which has championed francophone communities for a century. Throughout 2026, Albertans will be invited to participate in events and initiatives celebrating the stories, heritage, and resilience of Alberta's French-speaking population and honouring their vital role in the province's diverse identity.
