Canada sets new Foreign Credential Recognition targets for 2026-2027

The Canadian government has unveiled its plan to accelerate the Foreign Credential Recognition (FCR) process for thousands of newcomers. For the 2026-2027 period, the government aims to establish 58 new agreements to help roughly 32,000 internationally trained professionals join the workforce. Significant focus is placed on addressing critical labour shortages within the healthcare and construction sectors across the country. To support this, a new $97 million Action Fund will begin its rollout to streamline licensing and reduce bureaucratic hurdles. These measures are designed to make the assessment of foreign qualifications more transparent, fair, and efficient. Additionally, the plan encourages skilled migrants to start their certification process even before they officially land in Canada. By strengthening provincial partnerships, the government hopes to eliminate systemic barriers that prevent professionals from working in their fields.
