A Federal Court judge has set aside the citizenship revocation of Nermine Magdi Ibrahim, an immigrant pharmacist, criticizing immigration officials for their nine-year delay in proceeding with fraud allegations. Officials first flagged Ibrahim's case in 2014 after suspicions she had not met residency requirements, but only notified her of potential revocation in 2023. Justice Avvy Yao-Yao Go ruled the delay compromised Ibrahim's ability to defend herself and questioned the justice system's integrity if proceedings continued. Ibrahim, who became a citizen in 2007, argued that she took maternity leave while employed in Kuwait and maintained strong ties to Canada, including owning pharmacies and property.
