Processing times continue to rise across Canadian immigration programs

On May 12, 2026, IRCC released updated processing timelines for multiple permanent residence and citizenship application categories. Provincial Nominee Program applications remain among the most affected, with non-Express Entry PNP processing increasing to 14 months, while Express Entry-aligned PNP applications are estimated at around 7 months. Applicants in multiple categories also continue reporting delays linked to security screening, background verification, and growing application inventories. Although IRCC has improved processing in some temporary residence streams, many permanent residence applicants are still facing longer wait times in 2026.
