Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently updated its instructions regarding the restoration of temporary resident status to provide greater flexibility for foreign nationals. Under the revised policy, applicants can now apply to restore their temporary resident status independently, without the obligation to restore the specific work or study authorizations they previously held. This means individuals who no longer qualify for or require their former authorizations may choose to restore their status simply as a visitor. However, it is important to note that Temporary Resident Permit (TRP) holders remain ineligible for this restoration process under section 182 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations.
